         1705-1706, Bach visited the great master Dieterich Buxtehud and his Abendmusik in Norther city of Lubeck. (walked 250 miles each way)  He overstayed his planned visit by several months.

         1706- Bach relized that he needed to escape from his family and move on to further his career.  He was offered a position as an organist at St. Blasius’s in Milhlhausen.

         1707- Took senior post with improved pay and conditions, including a good choir.   

         Four months later, Bach married his 2nd cousin from Amstadt, Maria Barbara Bach.

         1708- Wrote “God is my king BWV 71”, a festive cantata in the style of Buxtehude, for the inauguration of the new council.

         Bach was appointed to his first important position as a court organist and chamber musician to the Duke of Weimar.

         During the Weimar period (1708-1717), he saw a rise of his fame as an organ virtuoso and the composition of many of his most important works were created.

         December 28, 1708- 1st child, Catharina Dorothea Bach, was born.

·        1710- November 22: 2nd child, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach was born

          1713-February 23: 3rd and 4th children, Johann Christoph andMaria Sophia were born and died the same day

         March 13-Bach competed for organist’s post at Halle

          1714- February: Declined offer of Halle post.

         March 2nd, he was promoted to Konzertmeister at Weimar

         March 8th, 5th child, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was born.

          1715- May 11th, 6th child, Johann Gottfried Berhard Bach was born
